Rajendra Singh demands transparency on Google data centre, Amaravati and Eluru projects
· India · The Hindu, TechCrunch
Water conservationist Rajendra Singh on Thursday urged the Andhra Pradesh government to disclose all environmental, forest and water-use clearances, land allocations and lease agreements for the proposed Google hyperscale data centre near Visakhapatnam. Speaking in Vijayawada alongside Jal Biradari convener Bolisetty Satyanarayana, Singh said the 1,000 MW project offers only about 500 jobs against incentives worth nearly Rs 22,000 crore, and questioned its net benefit. He insisted the 2–3 km riverfront strip along the Krishna in Amaravati be reserved for agriculture and blue-green infrastructure as required by Environmental Clearance No. SEIAA/AP/GTN-151/2015 dated October 9, 2026, and alleged the capital's construction does not appear legally compliant. Singh also called for an independent assessment of the Underground Coal Gasification project in the Chintalapudi–Recherla belt of Eluru district.
Why it matters
The demands affect large-scale industrial and urban projects in Andhra Pradesh that involve significant public incentives, water and land resources, and compliance with environmental safeguards.
