Ram Madhav: Government Not Involved in Sonia Gandhi Memoir Dispute
· India · Indian Express
Senior BJP leader Ram Madhav stated that the government has no role in the ongoing controversy regarding Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s unpublished memoir, 'Belonging: A Journey of Love'. Madhav described the disagreement as a private matter between the author and her publisher, Penguin Random House India. The publishing house had reportedly requested editorial changes and deletions in the manuscript, which Gandhi declined to accept. Following the impasse, the book deal with Penguin was cancelled, and the memoir will now be published by HarperCollins India. Madhav, who is also an author, noted that editorial negotiations are a standard part of the publishing process.
Why it matters
The statement clarifies the BJP's official stance on the high-profile publishing dispute, distancing the government from allegations of political pressure regarding the memoir's content.
