Range Rover Electric Debuts With 372-Mile Range and High Price Tag

· Automobile · Wired, Car and Driver

JLR has officially launched the Range Rover Electric, the company's first fully battery-powered luxury SUV. The vehicle features dual 260-kilowatt motors capable of producing 542 horsepower and 850 newton-meters of torque, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.3 seconds. It utilizes a 118.5-kWh battery with 800-volt split-charging technology, allowing for a 10 to 80 percent charge in 22 minutes and a maximum range of 372 miles under WLTP standards. The SUV is priced at approximately $208,000 for the UK entry-level Autobiography model, while US customers can purchase the SE-spec trim starting at $138,000. JLR has filed over 300 patents for the vehicle, which includes off-road capabilities such as 900-millimeter wading depth and single-pedal driving on 45-degree inclines.

Why it matters

The launch marks a significant shift for JLR as it attempts to capture the luxury EV segment despite a broader market slowdown and lukewarm demand for high-end electric SUVs.
