Rare Rapunzel Syndrome: 1 Kg Hair Mass Removed from Girl in Thiruvananthapuram
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
Doctors at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram removed a 1-kg hairball from the stomach and small intestine of a nine-year-old girl. The patient was admitted to NIMS Medicity in Neyyattinkara presenting with persistent abdominal pain and vomiting. Ultrasound and endoscopy scans revealed severe intestinal obstruction caused by a trichobezoar extending from the stomach into the small intestine. A paediatric surgery team led by Dr Biju I G Nair successfully performed the complex procedure to extract the mass. The patient recovered well, resumed normal eating habits, and was subsequently discharged from the hospital.
Why it matters
