Ravi Shastri Advises Managing Jasprit Bumrah's Workload Across Formats
· Sports · Times of India, NDTV Sports
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has advised that fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah should not play all three formats leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup. Shastri believes Bumrah should focus primarily on Test cricket while featuring only sporadically in ODIs and T20Is to preserve his fitness. Speaking ahead of India's tour of New Zealand starting October 22, Shastri endorsed the return of veteran bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the T20I squad and backed Mohammed Shami for a recall in the longer white-ball and red-ball formats. India's upcoming tour includes five T20Is, five ODIs, and two Tests. Shastri noted that qualifying for the World Test Championship final remains a steep challenge requiring India to win approximately 90 per cent of their remaining matches.
Why it matters
Managing Jasprit Bumrah's workload is crucial for India's pace attack ahead of major international fixtures, while squad selections for the New Zealand tour set the tone for the team's transition and World Test Championship campaign.
