· Sports · Al Jazeera, Sportstar, Indian Express
Real Madrid secured a 1-0 victory over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, with Ivorian winger Yan Diomande scoring the decisive goal. The win keeps Madrid six points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona. The match was marked by the dismissal of Vinicius Junior, who received a red card for pulling the hair of Villarreal’s Nathan Saliba following a VAR review. Kylian Mbappe started for Madrid despite recent fitness concerns and faced a mixed reception from the home crowd.
Why it matters
The result keeps Real Madrid in the hunt for the La Liga title, though the loss of Vinicius Junior to suspension creates a personnel challenge for upcoming fixtures.
