Restate Secures $20 Million Series A Funding to Expand Durable AI Infrastructure

· Technology · TechCrunch

Berlin-based startup Restate has secured $20 million in a Series A funding round led by Singular, with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures. Founded in 2022 by Stephen Ewan, the company builds an execution engine designed to make multi-step workflows resilient to crashes and network interruptions. The recent explosion in AI agent usage has provided a powerful tailwind, as agent workflows run longer and take inherently unpredictable paths compared to traditional software. Restate has closed multiple six- and seven-figure customer contracts in recent months, serving Fortune 500 companies in the financial sector alongside high-profile clients like Replit. The new capital will help the startup compete against Temporal, a major player in the durable infrastructure space that recently announced a $550 million Series E round at a $12.55 billion valuation.

Why it matters

The funding allows Restate to scale its lightweight durable execution engine as enterprises increasingly demand reliable infrastructure to manage complex, long-running AI agent workflows without mid-process failures.
