Retail trading in high-yield corporate bonds gains momentum
· Business · Economic Times, Business Standard
Retail investors are buying high‑yield corporate bonds through online platforms, with minimum tickets as low as ₹10,000. The number of bond trades doubled to 2.8 million in FY26, and first‑quarter trading surpassed one million transactions. Yields range from 9–10% on AA‑rated issuers to over 13% on BBB‑rated companies like Moneyboxx Finance and ReGreen Excel EPC India. The trend is driven by flat equity markets and regulatory changes that reduced bond face values and broadened platform access.
Why it matters
Retail exposure to higher‑yield bonds allows investors to seek better returns than equities, while increasing liquidity and depth in the Indian corporate bond market. Greater retail participation also forces issuers to offer more competitive yields and adjust pricing structures.
