Retired Officer Detained Over Secunderabad Cantonment Arms Theft

Malkajgiri Police have detained a military officer who retired two months ago regarding the theft of 12 firearms and over 1,800 rounds of ammunition from the 20 Madras Regiment in Bolarum, Secunderabad Cantonment. The stolen cache includes four AK-203 assault rifles, an INSAS 1B1 rifle, six 9 mm Auto 1A pistols, a civilian pistol, and night-vision equipment. The theft was discovered on August 31 after personnel found broken locks at the battalion magazine. While the detained officer has reportedly named accomplices, police have not yet confirmed if the weapons have been recovered.

The theft of high-grade military weaponry from a secure facility poses a severe national security risk, triggering a multi-agency investigation involving the Army, Military Intelligence, and the National Investigation Agency.
