Amazon's smart home division, Ring, is implementing a new encryption standard called TAKE (Throw Away the Key Encryption) as the default for its cloud-based video features. The system uses rotating encryption keys that are temporarily stored in the cloud to enable intelligent functions like Smart Alerts while maintaining user privacy. The company stated that it deletes these keys within 24 hours after processing. Users retain the option to manually select end-to-end encryption if they prefer.
