Roblox Expands Tools to Let Creators Release Games as Standalone Apps
· Technology · Indian Express, Bloomberg
Roblox announced plans to allow creators to distribute their games as standalone apps across mobile, PC, and consoles, expanding access beyond its platform. By year-end, players will also join games directly from Chrome without downloading an app. The company is enhancing its AI tools, including Build (which has already seen 9,000 games published by users new to Roblox Studio) and Scene Generator, due later this year, to streamline game development. New non-player character features will enable automated playtesting. Additionally, Roblox is introducing a new ad format and partnering with Google to bolster its ad revenue for creators.
Why it matters
Game developers gain broader reach and monetization opportunities as standalone apps open new markets, while AI tools lower the barrier for entry. Players benefit from easier access to games outside Roblox’s ecosystem, potentially increasing engagement. The ad partnership with Google could significantly boost earnings for creators, reshaping the gaming economy.
