Rohan Parikh: From London to the centre of BKC’s ‘PMO ID’ case
· India · Indian Express, Hindustan Times
A 24-year-old share broker, Rohan Premal Parikh, was detained in Mumbai after allegedly using a fake Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) identity card to enter Jio World Plaza in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. Police found him with a licensed revolver and six live cartridges, carried by his retired Army bodyguard, Dilip Rajaram Kunde. Parikh, who studied in London and works in drone technology, claims he was duped by his friend Prathamesh Bagul and Kunde, who is now absconding. The fake PMO card listed Parikh as a Grade C official linked to drone technology, raising questions about how the fraud was orchestrated. Investigators are probing whether his background was exploited to create the fake credentials.
Why it matters
The case raises concerns about security lapses at high-profile venues during government visits, potentially affecting public trust in event security protocols. It also highlights vulnerabilities in identity verification systems, which could have broader implications for official and corporate security measures in Mumbai and beyond.
