Rowghat railway section opens: First rail link since Independence in Chhattisgarh's Bastar
· India · Hindustan Times, LiveMint
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai inaugurated the 95-km Tadoki-Rowghat railway section and flagged off passenger train services connecting Rowghat with Raipur on Tuesday. The new line completes the final 17.5-km stretch of the Dallirajhara-Rowghat project, built at a cost of around ₹1,628 crore. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joined the event virtually from New Delhi. Sai stated the link will improve access to education, healthcare, employment and trade in remote Bastar and southern Chhattisgarh. The section is part of a 240-km project including iron ore transport from Rowghat mines to SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant.
Why it matters
The rail link provides the first road-rail connection to Rowghat since Independence, directly improving access to essential services and opening the Rowghat mining area for iron ore transport to Bhilai Steel Plant, benefiting local employment and regional trade.
