· World · The Independent, BBC News, Telegraph India

Teddy Young, a 24-year-old member of the Royal Navy, has been charged with two offences under the U.K.'s National Security Act. Authorities allege that Young obtained, copied, and retained protected information with the intent to benefit a foreign power. He was arrested at his home in Bedfordshire on Tuesday and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. Police stated the charges are not related to a separate recent investigation at RAF Fairford. The offences are alleged to have occurred between November 2024 and May 2025.

Why it matters

The charges represent a significant breach of national security within the U.K. armed forces, raising concerns about the protection of sensitive military data and the influence of foreign actors.
