· India · NDTV
Customs officials seized hydroponic weed valued at approximately Rs 1.5 crore from two passengers at Cochin International Airport. The primary accused, Shakh Zaved Ali from Hyderabad, arrived from Bangkok via Colombo on a Sri Lankan Airlines flight. A second unidentified individual linked to the consignment was also taken into custody during the operation. Authorities intercepted the contraband following a tip-off regarding narcotics being smuggled into Kerala via international air routes. An investigation is currently underway to uncover the broader distribution network behind the shipment.
Why it matters
This seizure highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb international drug trafficking rings operating through South Indian transit hubs. The interception prevents a major high-value contraband consignment from entering domestic circulation.
