RSS Affiliate BMS Opens First Public Office in Kashmir
· India · Indian Express, Times of India
The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, an RSS-affiliated trade union, has opened its first public divisional office in Barsoo village of Awantipora in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. The single-storey building features security cameras and police personnel standing guard outside with a modest signboard reading "office". For years, the RSS and its affiliates maintained a discreet presence in the Valley, operating schools through Sewa Bharti and undertaking temple renovation projects. BMS Kashmir in-charge Sameer Kuchay stated that the opening marks a shift towards working openly as the situation in the region has changed. The BMS claims to have 20 affiliated labour unions across Kashmir, though the BJP and RSS continue to face political resistance in the Valley.
Why it matters
The public opening marks a notable operational shift for the RSS and its affiliates from discreet community work to visible organizational presence in the Kashmir Valley.
