RSS-linked academics in NCERT textbook panel

· India · The Hindu, India Today, Times of India

The National Council of Educational Research and Training has reconstituted its textbook development team for classes 11 and 12 political science. The newly formed panel is mandated to integrate cultural rootedness, Indian knowledge systems, and inclusion into the curriculum. At least four members of the team have direct or indirect documented backgrounds in the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the BJP. Academic and political analyst Sandeep Shastri, vice-president of Karnataka-based deemed university Nitte, will lead the textbook team. The panel has been tasked with developing the class 11 textbook by November and the class 12 book by July next year.

Why it matters

The inclusion of academics with RSS and BJP backgrounds in the curriculum panel directly shapes the content and ideological orientation of political science textbooks taught to millions of Indian students.
