Indian distance runner Abhishek Pal has been served a notice by the National Anti-Doping Agency after a banned substance was detected in his sample. Pal features in India's 72-member athletics squad for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan, where he is scheduled to compete in the 5000m and 10,000m events. A source familiar with the development stated that a banned substance was found in a very small quantity in his sample. No provisional suspension has been imposed on Pal at this stage, leaving his participation in the continental multi-sport event uncertain. Pal previously won the 10,000m title and finished second in the 5000m at the National Inter-State Championships in June.
