Russia Escalates Jet-Powered Geran Drone Attacks Against Ukraine

Russia significantly increased its deployment of jet-powered Geran drones against Ukraine throughout August, launching waves of the faster aircraft daily. According to Ukrainian military data analyzed by BBC Verify, attacks rose from 350 in June and 1,600 in July to 2,800 in August. The jet-powered models travel at speeds exceeding 300 mph, posing a greater challenge to Ukrainian air defenses than older propeller-driven variants. Ukrainian military intelligence deputy head Maj Gen Vadym Skibitskyi stated that Kyiv urgently requires new interceptor missiles matching this speed. Four Ukrainian companies have begun testing domestic missiles designed to counter the new drone variants.
