Russia Open to Ukraine War Proposals Matching Putin's Goals
· World · Al Jazeera, The Independent, Bloomberg
Russia is prepared to evaluate new proposals for ending the war in Ukraine provided they align with President Vladimir Putin's core objectives and reflect battlefield realities. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated that Moscow seeks to revive US support for its agenda, noting that Washington has been distracted by its conflict with Iran. Putin previously demanded that Ukraine cede the entire eastern Donbas region, demilitarise, and abandon its bid to join NATO before any ceasefire. US special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff led earlier negotiations that stalled when talks scheduled for March were cancelled. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded by stating his diplomatic team is preparing new approaches and that Ukraine requires concrete results.
Why it matters
