Russian Strikes Kill 12 in Kyiv and Surrounding Region
· World · BBC News, Reuters, Al Jazeera
Overnight Russian strikes on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and the surrounding region have resulted in at least 12 deaths and 17 injuries. Among the casualties were six railway workers employed by the state-owned Ukrzaliznytsia company after a depot was hit. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that civilian infrastructure and residential buildings were damaged, sparking fires across three districts. Russia's defence ministry stated the attacks targeted military-industrial and fuel-energy facilities, following a separate strike on a weapons depot last Friday.
Why it matters
The continued targeting of critical infrastructure and civilian areas in Kyiv intensifies the humanitarian crisis and disrupts essential state services like rail transport.
