· India · Indian Express, The Hindu
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has announced a new blue dress code for the party's student wing, the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha. The uniform consists of blue T-shirts and jeans paired with the party's signature red cap. Yadav stated the change aims to connect with Gen Z and Gen Alpha students while symbolising democratic values, the Constitution, and a rebellion against social injustice. The party also plans to launch a two-week student awareness campaign across educational institutions in Lucknow and other parts of Uttar Pradesh. Yadav described the blue colour as a representation of the Bahujan movement and a tool to promote equality among students.
Why it matters
The move marks a strategic effort by the Samajwadi Party to broaden its appeal among younger demographics and strengthen its political base in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 elections.
