The Samajwadi Party has announced Ram Gopal Yadav and Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani as its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. Both candidates filed their nominations in Lucknow on September 30, 2026, in the presence of party president Akhilesh Yadav. The elections have been triggered by the expiration of terms for nine Rajya Sabha members from the state, including Union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and BL Verma. An additional 10th seat became vacant following the resignation of former deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma. Based on current assembly strengths, the BJP-led alliance is positioned to secure eight seats, while the Samajwadi Party, backed by Congress, can win two. Polling is scheduled for October 16, with vote counting taking place on the same day.
