Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines and Incinerators to Be Installed at KSRTC Depots in Kerala
· India · The Hindu, Indian Express
Sanitary napkin vending machines and incinerators will be installed at 14 KSRTC depots/terminals in Kerala as part of the WOMN scheme launched by the Women and Child Development department. The initiative, inaugurated by Minister Bindhu Krishna on Tuesday, aims to reduce women's anxiety during travel by providing affordable menstrual hygiene products. Each vending machine packet contains three sanitary napkins priced at ₹10, with HLL supplying the napkins and KSRTC overseeing machine maintenance. The machines come with a three-year warranty, and HLL will train KSRTC staff on cleaning and incinerator maintenance. The scheme will later expand to main tourist destinations across the state.
Why it matters
Women and girls travelling in Kerala will have access to low-cost sanitary napkins and eco-friendly disposal options, addressing menstrual hygiene challenges during transit. This initiative supports gender-inclusive public infrastructure and improves travel safety for female passengers.
