· Sports · India Today, Times of India, Indian Express
Sanju Samson scored 82 runs off 41 balls against West Indies in the second T20I in Ranchi, easing pressure on his spot in India's T20I side. Coming into the match following a 22-day gap since his last significant outing against Afghanistan, Samson faced fresh scrutiny amid calls for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Abhishek Sharma opened the innings with aggressive strokes while Samson anchored the other end with a measured approach. The wicketkeeper-batter stated ahead of the game that maintaining clarity in shot selection and expressing himself remained his primary focus. The innings provided India with a solid platform in their first-innings total.
Why it matters
The performance solidifies Samson's place in India's middle order amid intense competition from emerging young talents like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
