Sardar Sarovar Dam Reaches Full Capacity Despite Overall Water Deficit in Gujarat

Gujarat's Sardar Sarovar Dam reached its Full Reservoir Level of 138.68 metres on Wednesday evening. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel performed a traditional aarti at Ekta Nagar to mark the reservoir filling to gross storage of 9,431.01 million cubic metres, or 99.69% capacity. The milestone comes despite an overall state water deficit of 24.13% compared to 2025. Regions such as Kutch and Saurashtra face deficits of 51.45% and 37.54% respectively.
Why it matters
While the primary reservoir is full, severe regional storage deficits across North Gujarat, Kutch, and Saurashtra pose challenges for local water management.
