Saudi Arabia Denies Talks With Israeli Prime Minister in UAE
· World · The Hindu, Hindustan Times, New York Times
A Saudi official denied reports that representatives from the kingdom participated in a meeting in Abu Dhabi between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Emirati President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Israeli media had previously claimed that Saudi officials attended an expanded session focused on security cooperation, Iran, Yemen’s Houthis, and regional defence systems. The Saudi official stated that no official meetings or talks took place and that the kingdom's stance on Israel remains unchanged. The United Arab Emirates established official ties with Israel under the Abraham Accords in 2020. Riyadh maintains that normalising relations with Israel requires a clear path to Palestinian statehood.
Why it matters
The denial clarifies diplomatic boundaries in West Asia as regional security alignments shift. It reinforces Saudi Arabia's official policy that formal ties with Israel depend entirely on Palestinian statehood.
