SC Asks Centre to Respond on Plea for Special Paper Leak Probe

The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Centre to respond to a petition seeking a standard questionnaire and special investigation procedure for time-bound investigations and speedy trials in paper leak cases. A Bench headed by Justice P.S. Narasimha issued notice to the Union and State governments on the plea filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay in New Delhi. The petitioner has sought a direction to assess the entire property of perpetrators and their family members, alongside investigations under laws including the Prevention of Corruption Act and Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Mr. Upadhyay stated that his petition was triggered by the NEET-UG paper leak on May 3, which affected lakhs of students. The petitioner alleged that leaks have continued to rise despite the Public Examinations Prevention of Unfair Means Act in force since June 2024, and noted that the lack of Deception Detection Tests has hindered enforcement.
