SC Collegium recommends new chief justices for Rajasthan, MP, J&K and Chhattisgarh HCs

The Supreme Court Collegium, led by CJI Surya Kant and comprising Justices Vikram Nath, B V Nagarathna, M M Sundresh and P S Narasimha, has recommended the appointment of new chief justices for four high courts. Justice Sanjay K Agrawal of the Chhattisgarh HC has been recommended as CJ of the Rajasthan HC, following acting CJ S P Sharma's recusal from judicial work after allegations of integrity levelled by SC judge Sandeep Mehta. Justice Alpesh Yeshwant Kogje of the Gujarat HC has been recommended as CJ of Madhya Pradesh HC, and Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati of the Rajasthan HC as CJ of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh HC. Separately, Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra has been recommended as CJ of Chhattisgarh HC, replacing Justice Ramesh Sinha who retires on Sep 4. Justice Sharma is scheduled to retire on Sep 26, making the early appointment of a regular CJ to the Rajasthan HC a pressing matter.
