SC Judge Seeks Removal Of Rajasthan HC Acting CJ Over Power Misuse

Supreme Court judge Justice Sandeep Mehta has written three letters to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant urging the immediate appointment of an outside Chief Justice for the Rajasthan High Court. Justice Mehta alleged that acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma has been misusing his administrative powers and manipulating case listings to favour wealthy litigants. The letters, dated August 2, 10 and 17, state that several judges of the Rajasthan High Court met Justice Mehta during his visits to express anguish over Justice Sharma's conduct. Justice Mehta also claimed that the acting Chief Justice frequently threatens colleague judges with retributive transfers by citing proximity to the CJI. Justice Sharma is due to retire next month after holding the acting post for over ten months.
