The Supreme Court has agreed to examine investigation records concerning Sumit Roy, the personal assistant to TMC lawmaker Abhishek Banerjee, in a land-grabbing case. The bench, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, will hear the anticipatory bail plea next week after staying Roy's arrest on August 6. West Bengal Police argued that Roy, while appearing before investigators, has failed to cooperate and answer questions. Roy's counsel maintained that his client has cooperated and possesses a constitutional right to remain silent. The case stems from allegations of irregularities in West Midnapore’s Salboni involving fabricated documents.
