Scheduling Roadblock Threatens India's Test Preparation For Australia And New Zealand Series
· Sports · Times of India, ESPNCricinfo
India's preparations for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand and Australia have run into a scheduling roadblock due to overlapping domestic and international fixtures. Test captain Shubman Gill suggested that Indian batters receive match practice against Australia 'A' on spin-friendly pitches in Puducherry this month. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has scheduled the second of two four-day matches to overlap with the Irani Cup. Additionally, two separate Indian squads will participate in the Asian Games and a three-Test ODI series against the West Indies from late September to early October. This congestion leaves selectors with limited player availability to provide adequate red-ball preparation before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins in January 2027.
Why it matters
The scheduling conflict restricts India's red-ball practice against spin bowling ahead of crucial World Test Championship fixtures, leaving team management with limited options to address batting vulnerabilities.
