ScrollEd Turns Textbooks Into a TikTok-Style Feed

· Technology · TechCrunch

ScrollEd, a Palo Alto-based startup, is pitching an app that converts textbooks and PDFs into a vertical, scrollable feed resembling TikTok or Instagram Reels. As users scroll, AI generates video, audio, text, or interactive quizzes, with swiping up revealing new topics and swiping sideways deepening the current one. Co-founders Utsav Gupta and Rebecca Neff, both students at Stanford and UPenn, built the app after growing dissatisfied with doomscrolling before bed. The startup targets educational institutions, corporate training programs, and individual consumers, launching its consumer business at TechCrunch Disrupt with a freemium model combining a free feed, a paid Pro subscription, and institutional licenses.

Why it matters

Students and corporate trainees who struggle to engage with traditional textbooks may find a more compelling way to absorb material through short-form, interactive content. Educational institutions could gain a new channel to deliver curriculum in a format aligned with how younger learners already consume media.
