A search operation is underway in the Java Sea for the passenger ship Virgo Transport 8, which lost contact with authorities at approximately 2am on Sunday. The vessel, carrying 241 passengers, departed from Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday morning and was en route to Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan. The ship's operator reported the loss of communication after the vessel encountered bad weather. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the ship's last known position, located about 148 kilometres from Banjarmasin. There are no immediate reports of casualties.
