Sebi Chair Confirms Closing Auction Session Will Remain

· Business · Economic Times, Indian Express, LiveMint

Securities and Exchange Board of India Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey has ruled out scrapping the newly implemented Closing Auction Session (CAS). The mechanism, which determines closing prices for stocks in the futures and options market, will undergo enhancements to address concerns from market participants. Pandey stated that the regulator is currently reviewing feedback, social media discussions, and expiry-day data to improve the system. The CAS, which replaced the previous 30-minute average price practice, has been in effect since August 3.

Why it matters

The decision provides regulatory certainty for traders and market participants who have reported losses under the new system, though they must now adapt to the permanent auction mechanism.
