SEBI Eases FPI Onboarding With Digitally Signed Documents
· Business · Economic Times, Indian Express, Zee News
The Securities and Exchange Board of India streamlined the onboarding process for foreign portfolio investors by permitting the submission of digitally signed power of attorney documents. Under the updated regulations taking effect on August 20, 2026, FPIs can execute a Power of Attorney using a digital signature under the Information Technology Act of 2000. This modification eliminates the previous requirement for notarisation, apostillisation, or consularisation when authorising custodians. The regulatory change aims to reduce processing time and enhance the ease of doing business for overseas institutional investors operating in Indian capital markets.
Why it matters
Foreign portfolio investors face reduced compliance hurdles and faster registration timelines when entering Indian capital markets.
