Sebi Expands Accredited Investor Definition, Approves Common Ad Code
· Business · Economic Times, Indian Express
Sebi has widened the definition of accredited investors to include individuals with securities market assets worth ₹5 crore and corporates with ₹20 crore in such assets. The board approved a common advertisement code allowing celebrity endorsements for brands but prohibiting specific product promotions. A new settlement scheme was introduced for entities involved in non-genuine trades in illiquid stock options on the BSE between 2014 and 2015. The changes aim to simplify accreditation procedures and encourage listing of non-convertible debt securities.
Why it matters
These reforms broaden investment opportunities for high-net-worth individuals and corporates while ensuring clearer advertising guidelines for market intermediaries. The settlement scheme offers relief to entities facing enforcement actions for past trading irregularities.
