Second System Forms Over Bay of Bengal as Cyclone 'Arnab' Weakens

· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu

A second weather system has formed over the South Andaman Sea near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and intensified into a low-pressure area. India Meteorological Department officials reported that the system is expected to move in a west-northwest direction over the next 72 hours. Meanwhile, very severe cyclone 'Arnab' has weakened into a depression and was located over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining south Odisha. The IMD has not yet issued any cyclone warning or forecast regarding the trajectory of the new system. October and November mark the post-monsoon cyclone season in the region.

Why it matters

Coastal communities and disaster management authorities in eastern India must monitor the new Bay of Bengal system for potential cyclone development during the post-monsoon season.
