Shane Watson Criticizes Gautam Gambhir Over India's Inconsistency
· Sports · Indian Express, NDTV Sports
Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has criticized India head coach Gautam Gambhir for the team's inconsistent performance across formats. Watson attributed these struggles to frequent changes in the playing XI and constant shuffling of the batting order. While Gambhir has led India to T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy victories since 2024, the team has faced significant losses in Test series against New Zealand and South Africa. Watson acknowledged Gambhir's success in backing individual players like Sanju Samson, but emphasized that a lack of continuity remains a major hurdle. India is currently competing in a five-match T20I series against West Indies.
Why it matters
The criticism from a prominent former player highlights growing concerns over team stability as India prepares for an extensive all-format tour of New Zealand.
