Shastri Bhawan and Krishi Bhawan to be demolished for new Kartavya Bhawan offices

The Central Public Works Department has directed that Shastri Bhawan and Krishi Bhawan in Delhi be vacated by September 30 to make way for the demolition and construction of new Kartavya Bhawan 4 and 5 office buildings. The estimated cost of the Kartavya Bhawan 4 and 5 projects is about ₹3,100 crore, with construction expected to be completed in two years. Although most ministries have relocated, some officials continue to operate from Krishi Bhawan due to unallotted relocation space. Named after Lal Bahadur Shastri, Shastri Bhawan previously housed ministries including information and broadcasting, petroleum and natural gas, corporate affairs, coal, education, law and justice, sports and youth affairs, tribal affairs, and women and child development.
