Shein Targets $27 Billion Valuation in Hong Kong IPO Debut
· Business · BBC News, Bloomberg, Reuters
Fast-fashion retailer Shein plans to raise up to $1.77bn in its upcoming stock market debut on the Hong Kong stock exchange on 1 September. In a regulatory filing on Monday, the company stated it will offer nearly 280 million shares priced between HK$47.60 and HK$49.50 each. At the top end of this pricing range, the firm would achieve a valuation of nearly $27bn. However, this valuation is significantly lower than the $100bn peak the company reached during a private fundraising round in 2022. The Hong Kong listing follows abandoned plans to launch in the US and London due to regulatory challenges.
Why it matters
The reduced valuation reflects slowing sales growth and higher regulatory costs following policy shifts by US President Donald Trump and ongoing US-China tariff tensions.
