Shooter Ahvar Rizvi Qualifies for 2026 Asian Games
· Sports · Times of India, Sportstar
After missing the 2018 selection by a single point, 26-year-old Meerut shooter Ahvar Rizvi has secured a spot in India's men's Trap squad for the 2026 Asian Games. Rizvi, who previously competed in the now-discontinued Double Trap event, will represent the country alongside teammates Kynan Chenai and Shapath Bharadwaj. His journey to the national team included overcoming the transition from Double Trap to Trap shooting in 2019. The shooter, who comes from a family of marksmen, initially learned the sport using borrowed equipment before establishing his career. He is now preparing for his first appearance at the continental tournament.
Why it matters
Rizvi's inclusion marks a significant career milestone after years of setbacks in a changing international shooting discipline. His performance will be closely watched as part of India's medal hopes in the Trap event.
