Should Michael Carrick Drop Bruno Fernandes Ahead of Bournemouth Clash?
· Sports · BBC Sport
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick faces mounting pressure from former players and pundits regarding the future of club captain Bruno Fernandes ahead of Sunday's Premier League match against Bournemouth at Old Trafford. Former Everton striker Duncan Ferguson and Stretford Paddock host Joe Smith argue that Fernandes should be dropped from the starting lineup following his recent post-match criticisms after a 4-1 Champions League defeat by Como. Former manager Wayne Rooney warned that player dissent threatens to fracture the dressing room and urged Carrick to adopt a firmer managerial stance. Observers expressed surprise that Fernandes escaped disciplinary action and retained the captaincy, unlike teammate Lisandro Martínez, who was fined following public remarks after a defeat to Atlético Madrid. Carrick is scheduled to address the media in a news conference ahead of the weekend fixture.
Why it matters
The decision over Bruno Fernandes's future as captain and starter directly impacts Manchester United's dressing-room stability and tactical approach under Michael Carrick as the club fights for momentum in the Premier League.
