His 43-ball century surpassed Virat Kohli's previous record of an unbeaten 94 against the West Indies in 2019. Iyer is now the third Indian captain to score a T20I century, joining Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. While Iyer's innings ranks seventh on the all-time list for captaincy knocks, Pakistan's Babar Azam remains the overall record holder with 122 runs.
Why it matters
The performance solidifies Iyer's position as a key leader and explosive batter in India's T20I setup ahead of major upcoming tournaments.
