Shreyas Iyer finds form as India's T20I captain after tough start
· Sports · Indian Express, NDTV Sports
Shreyas Iyer led India to a 2026 Asian Games gold medal after a difficult start as T20I captain. He suffered six defeats in his first seven matches, including a 56-run loss to England in Southampton. Over the next nine matches, all wins, Iyer showed clearer identity in his captaincy. He began backing young players like Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav even after they conceded runs. Iyer's approach now emphasizes role clarity and trust in bowlers after mistakes. The West Indies series will be his next test as captain.
Why it matters
This signals a potential shift in India's T20I leadership style under Iyer, favoring youth development and bowler confidence. It could influence selection and tactics ahead of upcoming ICC events.
