Singapore PM Wong Vows to Curb Anti-Indian Abuse Online

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong warned on Sunday that prejudice against any community must never be normalised, after racist and xenophobic comments surfaced online over two recent episodes. Nine Singaporeans remain missing in the Nepal-Tibet flash floods, and online abuse targeted some of them directly. Separately, questions about Singapore Airlines' investment in Air India were accompanied by anti-Indian abuse, Wong said. Senior Minister K. Shanmugam had earlier confirmed police are investigating the "shameful" comments. Wong said he discussed the matter with Cabinet colleagues and that such behaviour, if unchecked, could deepen mistrust between Singapore's communities — Indians make up about 9% of the city-state's six million population.
