· Business · Economic Times, Nikkei Asia, Bloomberg

South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix has reached a tentative wage agreement that will shift 60 percent of employee bonuses into company shares and deferred stock compensation. Under the proposed deal, workers will receive 40 percent of bonuses in cash, 40 percent in immediately tradable shares, and 20 percent as deferred stock compensation vestable over one and two years. The agreement also includes a 6.3 percent wage hike and expanded shareholder returns. Calculations by Reuters indicate that SK Hynix workers are on course to receive average compensation of about 779 million won in 2026 amid surging profitability. The tentative agreement still requires formal approval from union members.

Why it matters
