· World · The Independent, CBS News
Mohamed Mohamoud, a 22-year-old Somali-born UK resident living in Bristol, was found guilty at Winchester Crown Court of preparing acts of terrorism after attempting to join Islamic State in Somalia. Prosecutors stated that Mohamoud interacted with an AI chatbot used by ISIS recruiters to filter potential members before flying to Bosaso in the Puntland region in January 2025. He sought to become a martyr for the terrorist group but failed to make contact due to ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the area. Mohamoud returned to the UK on March 3, 2025, with plans to maintain communication with recruiters for future deployment. During his trial, Mohamoud denied preparing acts of terrorism while admitting his attempt to join the organization.
