Sonam Wangchuk Threatens New Ladakh Agitation From September 19
· India · Hindustan Times, News18
Activist Sonam Wangchuk has announced plans for a fresh agitation in Ladakh from September 19 to 24. He stated the protest will proceed if the government does not provide assurances regarding Ladakh-related issues within one week. Wangchuk previously held an indefinite hunger strike for 26 days in June 2026 to support student protests over NEET exam irregularities. The activist was previously detained under the National Security Act in September 2025 following violent protests in the region that resulted in four deaths.
Why it matters
The proposed agitation could disrupt regional stability in Ladakh and renew pressure on the Union government to address demands for greater autonomy.
