Sony unveils new PlayStation Pulse wireless headsets with 'planar magnetic' sound tech
· World · Engadget, Gadgets360
Sony has introduced the PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge wireless headsets, both utilizing planar magnetic drivers for improved audio performance. These drivers use thin flat diaphragms to deliver lower distortion and cleaner bass compared to standard drivers. The headsets support PlayStation Link for ultra-low latency audio and Bluetooth for connecting to the PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac. The Pulse Edge model includes active noise cancellation, a detachable microphone, and double the magnets for deeper bass. Both models feature AI-enhanced noise rejection microphones to help identify directional audio in games.
Why it matters
This launch brings high-end planar magnetic technology to the mainstream consumer gaming market following Sony's acquisition of the premium-audio brand Audeze.
